H.E. Bulstrode’s West Country Tales Series

Six tales of the occult and the supernatural set in the English West Country, in which the reader encounters a range of unsettling characters and scenarios. The situations may often be disturbing, but a vein of dry humour runs throughout, often eliciting as many laughs as shivers.

Within these pages you will encounter a malignant Jacobean mannequin (Old Crotchet); a television set with a mind of its own (3:05 am); a psychedelic Crowley wannabe (Gwydion’s Dawn); the sickle-wielding spirit of old Dorset (The Rude Woman of Cerne); a pious minster guide possessed of the most unchristian of inclinations (Agnes of Grimstone Peverell); and a 17th-century village cunning man reputed to have the power to command the dead (The Cleft Owl). All are available as Kindle ebooks and are free to read for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. To purchase them at a discount, five of them can be found in Anthology: Wry Out West, whereas The Rude Woman of Cerne is included alongside three other stories in Uncanny Tales. The latest instalment - Old Crotchet’s Return - is also available as a paperback.

‘Worthy of an episode of Tales of the Unexpected? I think so. A creative short story, full of humour, and packed with historical references. Interwoven with witty observations and imaginative characters drawn from our local histories.’ ***** (Reviewer, Amazon UK)

‘Clever little story. A hidden gem. Came across the author by chance.’ **** (Reviewer, Amazon UK).

‘Great short with a clever plot line. If you insist on stories having all the questions answered and a happy ending this is definitely not for you. If you want a creepy ending that leaves you wanting to throttle the author then this is definitely for you.’ ***** (Reviewer, Amazon UK).

‘Great writing and a fun read with an occult vibe.’ **** (Reviewer, Amazon US).

‘An intriguing tale: truth or folklore in the making? This seasonal tale has a good pace and is packed full of witty observations.’ ***** (Reviewer, Amazon UK).

‘This is a good story and well told with a lovely twist in the narrative. I found it to be a light horror story in the vein of early-style horror, closer to “Tales of the Unexpected”.’ *** (Goodreads Reviewer).
